Collection: Lithium Battery Labels

Lithium battery warning labels are required to comply with UN regulations for shipping lithium batteries. The specific label to use depends on the type of lithium battery and whether it's packed with equipment:-

  • UN3480: Used for standalone lithium-ion batteries
  • UN3481: Used for lithium-ion batteries packed with or included in equipment
  • UN3090: Used for standalone lithium metal batteries
  • UN3091: Used for lithium metal batteries packed with or included in equipment

Lithium batteries are classified as Class 9 hazardous materials, and the labels must also include the lithium battery symbol and a telephone number. The labels are bright red and black with the UN hazard class number and the text "Lithium Ion Battery".

In addition to the labels, you may need to use approved packing standards, such as fire-safe isolation barriers. The exact packaging requirements depend on whether the batteries are being shipped by air, sea, rail, or road, and the number of cells in the shipment. You can find more information on packaging requirements in the IATA, RID, IMDG, and ADR regulations.
